What Goes On

TURIN BRAKES: THE WAIT IS OVER

New album 'Outbursts' released 1st March. New single 'Sea Change' released 22nd February.

Turin Brakes, (Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian), have announced they will be releasing a new studio album, Outbursts, on Monday 1st March on Cooking Vinyl. The album will be preceded by a single, Sea Change, on Monday 22nd February. Watch out for a free download for the album on 20th January from their website.

Having redefined the acoustic genre with their debut album, The Optimist LP which was short-listed for the Mercury Music Prize in 2001, the pair went on to release a string of superlative collections which saw them gradually expand on their original sound and vision.

Now, with their new album, Outbursts, Olly and Gale have rediscovered the working practices that got them started in the first place, and with it their old sense of mission. Written, produced and (for the most part) performed entirely by the two of them, the album is a collection of songs that returns to the essence of Turin Brakes, and not only echoes the quiet, edgy genius of their most celebrated work, but surpasses it. “We thought 'Let's go back and do this whole thing like we used to',” Gale says. “Do it as a duo. That's where the magic is.”

In March, Turin Brakes will be touring the UK to promote the album. Tickets are on sale now and cost between £16.50 and £22.50, but may be subject to a booking fee. Full dates as follows:

FIONN REGAN: THE SHADOW OF AN EMPIRE

**** Q
**** Uncut
**** mojo

Never one to take the easy route, Fionn could easily have made a safe and predictable follow-up to “The End Of History”, his 2007 Mercury-nominated and critically lauded debut, and simply recorded another collection of beguiling acoustic beauties.

But Fionn has returned with a very different second album bursting with ideas and a set of dazzling new tunes which are sure to reaffirm his reputation as both maverick genius and one of the most talented contemporary singer-songwriters around… If The End of History was the sound of the countryside and woodland lanes The Shadow Of An Empire is the sound of towns and dimly lit streets...

The album is receiving some great reviews, with Q, Mojo and Uncut all giving the album 4 out of 5 stars. It will be released on 8th February.

NOKO SCORES FRENCH MOVIE

Noko scores his first full length feature film, the stylish French political thriller Une Affaire D'Etat, to excellent reviews.

Noko also played most of the instrumentation, and produced the score himself. Only 3 other tracks are included on the soundtrack - one by Ennio Morricone, and another especially written and performed for the end titles by Noko & Howard Devoto.

The Original Soundtrack is out on Milan Music.

Directed by Eric Vallette (One Missed Call), Une Affaire D'Etat stars Andre Dussollier, Rachida Brakni and Thierry Fremont, and premieres in Paris Nov 23.

Noko and the rest of Apollo 440 are putting the finishing touches to their fifth album, for release in the New Year. Noko has also been playing guitar in the reformed Magazine

ANDY LOVE : AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

Congratulations to Andy Love on picking up a BMI Award for the theme to America's Got Talent, which just finished its fourth series. Andy, with song/production partner Jos Jorgensen, is also responsible for the themes for Britain's Got Talent and X Factor.

K-GEE : WE RUN THINGS

"Jamie Cullum's fifth album does justice to his musical influences: from the Portishead-tinged If I Ruled The World to the wonky groove of We Run Things co-written and produced by Karl Gordon aka (KGee) it's bold, experimental and the best thing Cullum's done." released on Nov 9th.

JOE CANG : BELLA SIGNORINA

The single "BELLA SIGNORINA" precedes the album’s release and picks up where last summer’s hit ‘Making Love’ left off. Encapsulating Joe Cang’s joie de vivre, “Bella Signorina” tells the tale of a man falling for a woman who he sees everyday when she takes her duck for a walk. That’s right…a duck. What’s not to like?

THE REBEL YELL: LOVE & WAR

BBE / Rapster ushers in one of the world’s A-list R&B / hip hop producers, JAMES POYSER, for THE ReBeL Yell, a jaw-dropping new project alongside KHARI FERRARI MATEEN (The Roots, J*DaVeY, Skillz) and vocalist SupaStar.

You’ll know Poyser primarily for his peerless production CV. He’s a Grammy Award-winning songwriter for "Love Of My Life (An Ode To Hip Hop)" by Erykah Badu + Common, and he was also nominated for Best R&B Song for Erykah’s "Danger" and again a year later for Mariah Carey’s "Mine Again"
.

TURIN BRAKES: LATITUDE & GOSSIP GIRL

The Turin Brakes boys are booked in at Latitude to play a midnight acoustic show in the Film & Music Arena on Friday night. Accompanied by some cool visuals, it should be a real treat for festival goers.
The guys have also been busy in their Brixton studio producing up their new album. The results are sounding amazing – harking back to The Optimist-era sound. Their Dark On Fire track meanwhile is already something of a cult stir on YouTube amongst Gossip Girl fans following its recent sync. Mixing on the album starts soon, so expect to hear the rest of the new material before too long.

FIONN REGAN – THE SHADOW OF AN EMPIRE

Fionn Regan has finished recording The Shadow Of An Empire - the follow up to his Mercury nominated debut album.
The new album was recorded by Fionn himself in Ireland and mixed by Paul Stacey (who previously has produced and mixed the Black Crowes). As well as including songs that are reminiscent of his first album, Shadow Of An Empire sees Fionn move in to new territory and strapping on an electric guitar.
The full track listing is:
Coat Hook / Protection Racket / Genocide Matinee / Violent Demeanor / Catacombs / Little Nancy / Lord Help My Poor Soul / Lines Written In Winter / House detective / The Shadow Of An Empire.

NEW ART BRUT ALBUM OUT NOW!!

International indie hit makers Art Brut have released their new album, It's A Bit Complicated. Produced by Dan Swift (Snow Patrol, Kasabian), the bands second album sees Eddie Argos and co growing up, writing some punk songs, and being a bit confused about adult life in London.

After debut album Bang Bang Rock & Roll launched Art Brut's career as a world-wide cult act, the band spent 2 years touring Europe, USA, and even playing shows in Russia, Mexico and Brazil. After supporting Oasis in Germany the band found themselves on the cover of Rolling Stone, and a Berlin university gave lectures on their lyrics. Said Eddie Argos, "It's amazing! It was called the 'Depressive Dandy', apparently they think I'm an intellectual. I tell them that I'm not, but they don't believe me. I'm an idiot! I'm drunk!"

Drunk or sober, It's A Bit Complicated is a critics favourite around the world. From Pitchfork to NME and The Guardian, the album has been receiving rave reviews. After selling out their biggest UK tour to date, Art Brut are spending the summer performing at festivals around the world before returning to headline duty in Germany and USA in autumn.

Despite all the praise, Eddie has a simple outlook. "If you're in a band you want to be successful, but we began just to make friends with people. I want to be friends with Lyndsay Lohan now. It's my new aim!"
